A Guide to the Bodleian Library Group
Oxford University

WELCOME
Oxford University has a rich and diverse library sector comprising over one hundred individual libraries. There are major research libraries, libraries attached to the faculties, departments and other institutions of the University, and college libraries. Perhaps the most renowned of all is the Bodleian Library.

Because the Bodleian is one of only five copyright deposit libraries in the United Kingdom its resources are used by scholars from around the world. The Bodleian has several 'dependent' libraries across the city of Oxford each housing a specialist collection of material. This, coupled with the semi-autonomous operation of these dependent collections, can make using the Bodleian stock somewhat difficult.

This guide is aimed at students, staff, and visitors, to assist them in using the Bodleian.
